Week 10
Week beginning Monday 29th June, 2020
Celebrating Independence Day (USA):
Seeing as our current topic is Road Trip, USA! We thought it'd be a nice idea for us to celebrate American Independence Day. This is on Saturday 4th July, so in school we will be celebrating it on Friday 3rd July instead. We will also organise a zoom call and have an American-themed quiz! At school, we will be dressing up in red, white and blue to represent the American flag and will be having vegetarian hot dogs and apple pies for lunch - you could do the same at home! See you in your red, white and blue on Zoom, on Friday!
HAPPY AMERICAN INDEPENDENCE DAY FROM THE KS2 BUBBLE!
Cross-Curricular Learning - Road Trip, USA - 2:
The powerpoint for this week's learning, 'Road Trip, USA! - 2', is available to download below. There are 5 days of work. Each day is signified by the number in the top right-hand corner (for example L1 would be for Monday, L2 for Tuesday etc.). This week we will be covering Science, Computing, Literacy, History, PSHE. PLEASE read the notes section (beneath each slide) for key information and instructions, related to the task. There are four documents to download for some parts of the lessons. This will be written in the note sections so you know when they are necessary. (These lessons follow in order so it is important to complete Road Trip, USA - 1 before moving on to this week's learning).
Maths:
This week we are revising multiplication.
There are two PowerPoints below. One all about multiplying by ten and one hundred (Mon- Wed) and another about arrays (Thur-Fri).
Science - Electricity:
We will now be moving on to our topic on Electricity.

Below is a Science powerpoint lesson and activity to complete:
'Science - Lesson 1 - Electricity' and 'Science - Lesson 1 - Electricity TC script plan'.
History:
I have uploaded a PowerPoint and two activities for the children to learn about Abraham Lincoln, one of USA's most significant past presidents. At school, we are making Abraham Lincoln hats and beards to wear on Friday to celebrate him. You could do the same at home!
RE:
For the next 4 weeks, an RE document will be uploaded (1 word document per week). The document includes detailed parental guidance and some background knowledge required for teaching the activity. It is important that these lessons are completed with an adult. Push your child's thinking and help them to make religious or personal links, where possible. This week is RE - Lesson 3.
Spanish:
I have uploaded some new Spanish resources below. We are moving on from numbers and dates and colours onto food. Use the powerpoint for practice, before attempting the tasks. Remember, online and YouTube have some fantastic resources to support teaching/learning Spanish, too! Do you know somebody who can speak Spanish? Maybe you could zoom/facetime them and practise with them!
PE/Exercise:
It is incredibly important that we keep our bodies healthy too. At 9am Mondays and Wednesdays, Joe Wicks livestreams a workout for children on YouTube. Just type in 'PE with Joe' just before 9am. He will also be doing a session on Saturday mornings now.
You could also go for walks, bike rides, exercise or play sports in the garden/park/outdoor space - whatever you have access to and can manage. Stay fit, eat healthily and get enough sleep at night.
Guided Reading:
Please do continue to access 'The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe' text and study guide - I have reuploaded this for those asking for it. Read a chapter then locate the associated activities for that chapter in the study guide.
If you have completed the book and activities, I recommend reading non-fiction texts about American heroes, as our new topic is about the USA. In light of recent events, this could be a great time to research civil rights icons like Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King.
Ask your child a series of questions related to the text and make sure these go beyond just picking the answers from the page, but also encourage the child to think more deeply.
General:
Remember to read and practise your times tables everyday for at least 10-20 minutes.
This website has lots of games, videos and learning for all subject areas: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/
Spag.com and MyMaths.co.uk:
This is EXTRA learning for if all the work from here has been completed, or to be completed in ADDITION to the work set here. Challenges may sometimes be reset if the result shows the student could do with more practice. Please do reattempt these when they are set.
